Clippers Sweep #2 in Region Wilmington University

The Clippers headed to Delaware yesterday to finish out the regular season as they faced off with the Wilmington University Wildcats (#2 in the East Region).

The Clippers called upon Peter Denyssenko to pitch the first game.  Denyssenko pitched well only allowing one Wildcat runner on the base paths in each of the first couple of innings.  With only the one runner the Wildcats were scoreless through six innings.

The Clippers were also held to being scoreless through the six innings though they did have bases loaded in the fourth.  The Clippers scored in the seventh as Billy O'Connell led off with a single.  After heading to second and being called safe due to an error, O'Connell was in scoring position.  Joe Gallub then hit a double to left field for O'Connell to score and the Clippers were on the board with one.

Denyssenko continued to pitch well and with his defensive team behind him held the Wildcats off in the last three innings of the game.  With the hold off from the Clippers, they took the game 1-0.

Denyssenko pitched the complete game shutout while fanning eight batters.  Billy O'Connell scored the winning run as Joe Gallub knocked him in with the double.

Game two saw the Clippers open up on the hitting as they put two on the board in the first inning.  Yonatan Rodriguez led off with a double and then scored off of a TJ Walsh single.  With two outs David Perlleshi hit a double which Walsh was able to score off of.

The Wildcats tied the game up in the bottom of the second after holding the Clippers off in the top of the inning.

A scoreless third for both teams brought the game into the fourth where the Clippers reclaimed the lead in a big way.  James Anderson led the inning off with a single and then stole second base.  Billy O'Connell joined him on the base path as he was walked aboard.  A double from Joe Gallub scored Anderson and O'Connell as the Clippers took the lead 4-2 but that wasn't the end of the inning for the Clippers.

Christopher Motta reached first after being hit by a pitch as Gallub still stood on second.  Yonatan Rodriguez then hit his second double fo the game and scored Gallub.  A single from Jason Berrios scored Motta.  A double steal from Berrios (to second) and Rodriguez (to score) gave the Clippers another run on the board all before the first out of the inning.

Berrios stole third as the first out came around in the inning for the Clippers.  Luis Gonzalez then hit a double to score Berrios and the inning kept on moving.  David Perlleshi reached on an error and then stole second giving the Clippers two runners in scoring position.  James Anderson came back to the plate for the second time in the inning and hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to bring Gonzalez in.  With the third out on the next batter, the Clippers added seven to the board and were now leading the Wildcats 9-2.

Malanga continued his work on the mound and was able to hold off the Wildcats.  With the fifth and sixth innings scoreless the Clippers started back up with the bats in the seventh.

David Perlleshi led the seventh off with a double and then moved to third off of a wild pitch.  James Anderson was then walked aboard as the Clippers now had runners on the corners.  A fielder's choice to the first baseman allowed Billy O'Connell to reach first and to score Perlleshi but Anderson was thrown out as the first out of the inning.  Joe Gallub hit a single to move O'Connell up to second as Christopher Motta loaded the bases next with a single of his own.  A Wildcat balk moved all the runners up including sending O'Connell home for a run.  Jason Berrios then hit a two out single to score Gallub and Motta and then moved to second off of an error.  TJ Walsh moved Berrios to third as he hit a single to gain access to the bases.  Luis Gonzalez drove Berrios in with a single and the Clippers added five more runs giving them a 14-2 lead.

The Wildcats could only answer one in the seventh and then one in the eighth as the Clippers pitching and defense held strong.

The Clippers defeated the Wildcats 14-4.

Keith Malanga picked up the win for the Clippers pitching seven inning as Anthony Pisano finished out the game with two strong innings.  Luis Gonzalez, David Perlleshi, and Joe Gallub each hit 3 for 5 for the game.

The Clippers finish their season 16-23 overall and 10-10 in the CACC.
