Clippers split doubles header with Wildcats
The Clippers hosted the Wilmington University Wildcats in a CACC double header today. Tommy Paradise was given the ball for the first game.
The Clippers struck first in the second inning as Greg Conway
started the inning off as he headed toward first after being hit by
a pitch. A single to left field from Mike Sciacchitano put
two runners on the bases. Difre Reyes hit a single to left
field to score Conway. With a single to right field by Luis
Gonzalez scored Sciacchitano and the Clippers were up 2-0.
The Wildcats answerd with just one run in the top of third inning to cut the Clippers lead in half.
A few innings later Difre Reyes knocked a single to get on base. Reyes then moved up on a balk from the Wildcats pitcher and then scored off of a fielder's choice by Donnie Roth to move the Clippers back up by two.
After the Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the sixth to
take the lead the Clippers worked hard to regain the lead. A
one out walk by David Perlleshi led the inning for the
Clippers. A single to right field by Billy
O'Connell moved Perlleshi up to second. With two outs
Mike Sciacchitano ripped a single to center field to score
Perlleshi and keep the inning going. Difre Reyes hit his
third single of the game this time to left center field to score
O'Connell. Luis Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to load the bases
up. A walk by Donnie Roth and then one by Anthony Carnacchio
brought two runners home and kept the bases loaded.
With the Clippers adding four in the bottom of the sixth, they regained the lead and the Clippers took that momentum and were able to shut the Wildcats scoring off through the rest of the game.
The Clippers scored two more runs as Mike Sciacchitano was walked aboard and Difre Reyes was hit by a pitch to put two runners on the bases. A sacrifice bunt by Luis Gonzalez moved the runners into scoring position. Donnie Roth was then intentional walked to load the bases. Anthony Carnacchio hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Sciacchitano. TJ Walsh was then intentionally walked to load the bases up once again. With two out David Perlleshi was walked and Reyes came crossing the plate.
The Clippers defeated the Wildcats in game one with PJ Surace
grabbing the win and Matthew Gelormino adding a save to his resume
with a 9-5 score.
Game two pitcher Peter Denyssenko started his game off as he only let on two runners but they did not advance as the Clippers defense took them out.
The Clippers threatened early on as Donnie Roth hit a double to left field and then advanced to third in the first inning. Greg Conway also hit a double to left field in the second inning but the Clippers could not capitalize on their early base running to have them score.
Wilmington grabbed two runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Clippers then answered with their only run of the game in the bottom of the inning after Billy O'Connell hit a single and then stole second. A two out double to right field by Difre Reyes scored O'Connell to cut the Wildcat lead in half.
The Clippers attempted to score a few more time but were unable to and they dropped the second game 1-4.
Difre Reyes led the Clippers as he hit 4 for 7 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's for the day.
The Clippers will head back to Caldwell College tomorrow to finish out the second game from two weeks ago.
