Clippers attempt to rally but fall to Owls

Box score

The Clippers hosted the Southern Connecticut State University Owls today.  The Owls struck right away as they scored seven runs in the first four innings of play.

The Clippers struggled at first only getting a few runners on base and only one hit during the first three innings.  The Clippers started their fourth inning at the plate with a single to center field by TJ Walsh.  Billy O'Connell followed up with a single to right field to put Walsh in scoring position.  Anthony Carnacchio loaded the bases as he was walked aboard.  Mike Sciacchitano then hit a two out double to right field to score Walsh and O'Connell as the Clippers finally got on the board.

The Owls returned in the top of the fifth to answer the Clippers two runs with three more of their own to go ahead 10-2.

The Clippers added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Anthony Carnacchio led the inning with a one out double to left field.  Difre Reyes then hit a single through the left side to put runners on the corners.  Mike Sciacchitano was at it again as he hit another double this time to left center field to score Carnacchio and Reyes.

With the Clippers working hard to get back into the game the Owls were shut down from crossing the plate though they did get close on several occasions.  The Owls added two more runs in the top of the ninth and the Clippers were up to their last at bats of the game.

A single to right field from John Pliego started the inning off.  Pliego then moved up to second base off of a wild pitch.  David Perlleshi was walked aboard to put two runners on.  A single through the left side by TJ Walsh loaded the bases up for the Clippers.  The Owls hit Billy O'Connell for Pliego to score and kept the bases loaded.  Anthony Carnacchio hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field for Perlleshi to score and the Clippers continued to score.  O'Connell and Walsh both moved up on a wild pitch as Difre Reyes was at the plate.  Reyes grounded out to the shortstop which allowed Walsh to score safely.  The Clippers ran out of time and hits after that and fell to the Owls 7-12.

Mike Sciacchitano hit 2 for 5 with 4 RBI 's on the day.  TJ Walsh and David Perlleshi both hit 2 for 4 with Walsh scoring twice and Perlleshi scoring once.  Difre Reyes hit 2 for 5 with one run scored and one RBI.

The Clippers will head to the University of Massachusetts Lowell for a double header this Wednesday.
