Clippers fall to Felician College in extra innings

Box score

The Clippers hosted the Felician College Golden Falcons in a non-conference single game today.  The Clippers called upon Tommy Paradise to start the game today.  Paradise, coming off an injury, pitched well as his first two innings were one, two, three innings.

The Clippers need a hot stick at the plate and got one as TJ Walsh led the bottom of the second inning off with a double to right center field.  A hard hit ball to the Golden Falcons thirdbaseman by Greg Conway moved Walsh up to third.  A throwing error on the same play allowed Conway to move to second and Walsh to score.

With the Clippers up 1-0, Paradise continued to throw well and went another two innings of play.  PJ Surace was called in for relief in the top of the fifth inning and started off where Paradise left off as he retired the Golden Falcons one, two, three as well through his first two innings on the mound.

The Clippers looked for insurance runs and in the bottom of the sixth TJ Walsh was up at bat.  With one out, Walsh took the first pitch and sent it over the right field fence for a home run.

In the bottom of the seventh the Clippers added another run as Greg Conway got on by a Golden Falcons error and was then moved over to second as Mike Sciacchitano laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Pinch hitter David Perlleshi earned his way on base as he was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of the at bat.  On a passed ball by the Golden Falcons catcher Conway and Perlleshi moved up tow second and third and the Clippers sat with two men in scoring position.  A squeeze play allowed Conway to steal home and score the Clippers third run of the game.  The same play almost worked for Perlleshi but was called out at home.  After seven full innings the Clippers were up 3-0.

Patrick Schreck came into pitch in the top of the eighth inning for the Clippers to try and finish out the game.  The Golden Falcons hit two singles in a row to put two men on.  As the next batter tried to sacrifice his teammates over an error cause both runners to score and put the batter on third base safely.  An unfortunate passed ball and the Golden Falcons scored again and tied the game up.

A new pitcher on the mound for the Golden Falcons stood in the way for the Clippers in the next couple of innings as the Clippers struggled at the plate.  With a scoreless ninth the game headed into extra innings.

Patrick Schreck worked hard on the mound as he was able to keep the Golden Falcons from scoring through the tenth and the eleventh.  The Golden Falcons laid down two bunt singles and got their men around the bases to score two runs and take the lead going into the bottom of the twelfth inning.

The Clippers got Mike Sciacchitano on base with a walk in the bottom of the twelfth.  Sciacchitano was then able to get to second on an error by the pitcher.  With a man in scoring position and two outs the Clippers were unable to score him and the Clippers dropped the game 3-5.

TJ Walsh went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI while Anthony Carnacchio also went 2 for 5 with two singles.

The Clippers will return to Clipper Field on Tuesday, March 30th at 12:00pm as they take on Post University in a CACC double header.
