Clippers defeat old conference foe Dowling
The Clippers hosted the Dowling College Golden Lions today in a non-conference match-up. The Clippers who called upon Pat Schrek to throw the game was set and read after a few days off.
Schrek started a little slow on the mound, trying to find his groove in the game. After the Golden Lions loaded the bases up the Clippers defense backed up Schrek and got out of the first inning unscathed. The second inning saw the first run of the game and it came from the Golden Lions after a single through the left side was hit.
The Clippers working at the plate got a hit in each of the first two innings but nothing came out of it. The bottom of the third was when the Clippers started their movement around the bases.
Luis Gonzalez started the inning off with a single up
the middle to get on base. A sacrifice
bunt by Vincent Ferraro moved Gonzalez comfortably into scoring
position. With a single to center field by Anthony
Carnacchio, Gonzalez scored to tie the game. Carnacchio then
heading to steal second also was able to head to third safely as an
error on the Golden Lions catcher was produced. The
Golden Lions then walked John Pliego, Donnie Roth stepped up to the
plate. Having already one hit, Roth kept his hitting going as
he hit a single to center field to score Carnacchio and to give the
Clippers the lead. With the designated hitter TJ Walsh up at
the plate hit ripped a double to deep right field to score Pliego
and put Roth on third with ease. The Golden Lions then loaded
the bases up as they hit David Perlleshi. Continuing with the
inning and still with only one out Difre Reyes followed suit with a
single to center field as Roth and Walsh both scored. With
Perlleshi and Reyes on they both headed for the third and second
respectively and were safe, each with stolen bases. Luis
Gonzalez came back up to the plate for the second time in the
inning and with two outs hit a shot to center field for a double as
he scored both Perlleshi and Reyes and gave the Clippers the 7-1
lead.
Schrek continued to pitch well as he had no real threat of anyone scoring through the end of his work.
The Clippers attacked again in the bottom of the sixth inning as
Vincent Ferraro was walked aboard. A stolen base from Ferraro
and John Pliego being walked for the second time put two one.
With one swing Donnie Roth hit a one out double to left center
field to score Ferraro and the Clippers were once again on the
move. With two outs on David Perlleshi hit a shot into right
field for a single as Pliego scored. Difre Reyes continued to
hit today as well as he scored Roth with a single to left
field. The Clippers now were able to load the bases up as
Mike Sciacchitano was walked aboard. Luis Gonzalez worked the
count and hit a single to center field as Perlleshi touched home
and the Clippers now held an 11 to 1 lead.
The Golden Lions were able to get one more run in the top of the eighth but were unable to get anymore and the Clippers defeated the Golden Lions 11-2.
Luis Gonzalez led the Clippers as he hit 3 for 4 with 1 run scored
and 3 RBI's. Donnie Roth hit 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2
RBI's. David Perlleshi knocked 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and
an RBI for the day as Difre Reyes hit 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and
