Pisano picks up third win of the season as Clippers defeat Dominican 9-7
The Clippers played Dominican College today in a non-conference show down on Clipper Field. Though the Clippers were the away team in today's match-up that fact didn't seem to unbalance the game.
Freshman Anthony Pisano took the start for today's game for the
Clippers. With the first three innings in the books, Pisano
came away unscathed with allowing none of the Chargers from
Dominican to score.
With the game scoreless going into the top of the fourth the
Clippers were just waiting to strike. With two outs and a 2-0
count TJ Walsh inaugurated the brand new fence on Clipper Field
with a solo home run to right center. After the home run the
Clippers hitting picked up. Billy O'Connell singled into left
field and then moved to second as Greg Conway was walked.
Difre Reyes hit a single to shortstop to score O'Connell and move
Conway to third. With Mike Sciacchitano at the plate Difre
Reyes attempted to steal second and was successful and as Reyes was
stealing second, Conway stole home and gave the Clippers the 3-0
lead.
The Chargers answered back in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs but the bats for the Clippers were still running hot. Anthony Carnacchio was walked on board and then was moved to second after a David Perlleshi single to left field. Donnie Roth hit a single up the middle to score Carnacchio. With a double to centerfield by TJ Walsh, Perlleshi rounded third and scored easily. Donnie Roth attempted to score but was unfortunately called out at home plate. Billy O'Connell got on base with an error by the second baseman which scored Walsh to give the Clippers a 6-2 lead.
The Chargers once again answered the Clippers with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the game a 6-4 game. The sixth inning saw the second home run of the game as Difre Reyes led the inning off with a shot over the left field fence. The Chargers then closed the gap a little more with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one run game.
After getting on base by an error by the left fielder TJ Walsh scored comfortably as Billy O'Connell hit a double down the left field line. O'Connell would later score as Reyes would get on base by another Charger error.
The Chargers could only score one more run before the end came and the Clippers defeated the Chargers 9-7.
Anthony Pisano picked up his third win of the season as Keith Malanga picked up another save.
TJ Walsh went 2 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Difre Reyes also went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.
The Clippers will open their CACC season as they head down to Philadelphia to face off against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at Ashburn Field this Saturday.
