Clippers earn two walk off wins over Bloomfield

The Clippers hosted the Bloomfield College Deacons in their last regular season CACC games of 2010.  The Clippers gave the game one ball to Peter Denyssenko. 

Denyssenko took the the Deacons down in the first inning, retiring them in order.  The Deacons got a run in the second inning to go on the board and take the first lead of the game.  Two innings later the Deacons tacked on another run and went up 2-0 over the Clippers.

The Clippers struggled at first though Donnie Roth and TJ Walsh each hit a double into the gaps in the first couple of innings.  In the fifth inning the Clippers were able to strike as Greg Conway led the inning off with a single to third base.  Difre Reyes grounded out and moved Conway up to second.  After a stolen base, Conway scored as Mike Sciacchitano hit a two out single through the right side. 

Two innings later the Clippers were on base and headed home again as TJ Walsh reached first on an error by the Deacons.  Billy O'Connell laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Walsh into scoring position.  A single to right field by Greg Conway put the Clippers on the corners.  Walsh scored next off of a sacrifice fly to center field by Difre Reyes and the Clippers tied the game up. 

Denyssenko continued to pitch well as the Deacons threatened striking out 6 through his 7.2 innings and with a little bull pen help by Matthew Gelormino the Clippers held the Deacons off through the ninth inning. 

In the bottom of the ninth TJ Walsh got on base after being hit by a pitch.  Billy O'Connell laid down another sacrifice bunt to move Walsh over.  With stealing third base next Walsh was just 90 feet from scoring.  With one out, Greg Conway hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field and stood on first to watch Walsh touch home and take game one 3-2. 

After winning the first game the Clippers were ready to go after game two. 

Game two pitcher Anthony Pisano went to work straight away in the first inning as he came away unscathed. 

The Deacons scored in the second inning to take the lead in the game. 

The Clippers threatened multiple times to score throughout the game but they struggled to have anyone touch home. 

Anthony Pisano kept his momentum going inning after inning as he and the Clippers defense shut the Deacons down. 

The seventh inning brought some good fortune to the Clippers as Greg Conway hit a single to left field.  John Pliego came in to pinch run for Conway and was moved up to second as Difre Reyes laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Mike Sciacchitano came to the plate and with two outs hit a ball to left field.  Sciacchitano reached first and Pliego scored as the Deacons recorded an error. 

With the game tied, the bottom of the ninth approached.  A single to left field by Billy O'Connell.  John Pliego put down a sacrifice bunt to move O'Connell over and into scoring position.  Luis Gonzalez then hit a single through the left side to put runners on the corners.  Mike Sciacchitano came to the plate again and with a hard hit ball to the shortstop, reached first base on an error and O'Connell was able to score for the Clippers to capture the second game.

Matthew Gelormino grabbed the win in game one while Anthony Pisano pitched a complete game to tack on another win. 

With the two wins today over Bloomfield, the Clippers captured the #4 seed in the CACC and will host a first round playoff game on Tuesday, May 4th against Post University at 2:00pm.
