Perlleshi leads Clippers their first CACC wins
The Concordia College NY Baseball team spent Saturday in Philadelphia on Richie Ashburn field facing off against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Devils in their first CACC double header.
The Clippers called Senior Jesse Horsham to pitch in the first
game. Staying in control Horsham pitched clean through the
first four innings of play, only giving up three hits.
With the Horsham playing his part the game the offensive strike was
ready to follow. In the top of the second Greg Conway led the
Clippers off with a double. Difre Reyes hit an RBI single and
put the Clippers on the board. Mike Sciacchitano followed
suit with a single of his own. David Perlleshi nailed a two
out single to score Reyes and kept the inning going for the
Clippers. Designated Hitter TJ Walsh stepped up to the plate
after Donnie Roth was walked for the second time in the game to
load the bases. Walsh hit a single and Sciacchitano and
Perlleshi scored to give the Clippers the 4-0 lead.
Difre Reyes started the top of the third inning for the Clippers with a single and then stole second base to get himself into scoring position. Tommy Paradise was walked and then on a wild pitch, he and Reyes moved up to have them both ready to score. David Perlleshi, continuing to hit well, knocked a two run single and moved the Clippers to a 6-0 lead.
The Clippers would score again in the top of the fourth as TJ Walsh hit a double to get on base and Greg Conway had a single drop in for Walsh to score. The Devils would score three runs between the fifth and sixth innings but after two-thirds of a game the Clippers would still be ahead 7-3.
The seventh inning was another inning where the Clippers would bat around. Difre Reyes and Mike Sciacchitano were both walked to start the inning off for the Clippers. Anthony Carnacchio hit a one out single to score Reyes. David Perlleshi continued to hit as his single scored Sciacchitano. Donnie Roth reached first base on an error by the second baseman which in turn was able to score both Carnacchio and Perlleshi. The Clippers were then able to load the bases as the Devils hit TJ Walsh with a pitch and then walked Billy O’Connell. Greg Conway hit into a ground ball which scored Roth.
The top of the eighth continued to see the Clippers score as they loaded the bases to start the inning with Tommy Paradise and pinch hitter Luis Gonzalez being walked and then David Perlleshi hitting his fourth single of the game. The Devils then walked Anthony Pisano and Vincent Ferraro which scored Paradise and Gonzalez to give the Clippers a dominating 14-3 lead after seven and half innings played.
The Clippers brought in a relief pitcher after Jesse Horsham
completed the seventh inning and only allowing three runs on eight
hits and three strike outs.
The Devils took full advantage of the Clippers bullpen to start out their half of the eighth inning. The Clippers bullpen faced 15 Devils batters in the eighth inning alone as the Devils were able to score 11 runs and tie the game up.
The Clippers brought in Peter Denyssenko to try and kill the damage and he was successful through the last 2.1 innings including 6 strike outs.
The Clippers headed into the tenth inning looking to finish this game out so that they could head into the second half of their Saturday double header. With a lead off single by David Perlleshi, the Clippers were on board. The Devils then loaded the bases as they walked Anthony Pisano and Vincent Ferraro. Christopher Motta stepped up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Perlleshi and Pisano and move the Clippers back into the lead.
Denyssenko retired the Devils in the bottom of the tenth; one, two three and nabbed himself and the Clippers their first CACC win of the season.
Game two was started as David Perlleshi hit another single to start the Clippers hitting off. Donnie Roth reached first base on an error by the Devils shortstop. That error also allowed Perlleshi to move up to third. A balk by the Devils pitcher moved Roth to second and scored Perlleshi. Billy O’Connell hit a single to score Roth and the Clippers started off with a 2-0 lead.
Matthew Gelormio was called as the Clippers second game pitcher. He started his game with throwing three ground balls to get the Devils out in order. Gelormio continued to pitch well as he only allowed six hits while striking out seven through his 6.1 innings on the mound.
The Clippers continued to be productive at the plate as Greg Conway
hit a two out double and then Difre Reyes followed suit with a two
out double of his own to score Conway in the top of the
fourth. Anthony Carnacchio hit a double to start the rally in
the top of the fifth for the Clippers. A single by Donnie
Roth scored Carnacchio. A stolen base and a single from TJ
Walsh scored Roth and the Clippers were up 5-0 at the end of five
innings.
The Clippers scored again come the seventh inning as the only run scored was a 330 plus feet shot over the right field fence by Anthony Carnacchio. The Devils were able to score only one run in the bottom of the seventh as Eric Skutch was on the mound in relief.
Difre Reyes hit a single then stole a base in the top of the eighth to get into scoring position. Luis Gonzalez was walked and the Clippers had two men aboard. Anthony Carnacchio knocked a double to score both Reyes and Gonzalez to give the Clippers more cushion. One more run for the Clippers would seal the deal. With singles from Donnie Roth and Billy O’Connell the Clippers got their ninth run of the game in the top of the ninth inning to seal their second CACC win.
David Perlleshi led the Clippers as he went 7-11 with 4 runs scored
and 4 RBI’s for the day. Greg Conway hit 4 for 11 with
2 runs and 4 RBI’s and also produced 20 putouts on the
defensive end. Difre Reyes went 5-11 with 4 runs scored and 2
RBI’s as Anthony Carnacchio went 4 for 9 with 3 runs and 4
RBI’s.
Peter Denyssenko and Matthew Gelormio picked up wins for themselves from on the mound.
The Clippers will face off again with the Devils tomorrow in a non-conference double header.
