Clippers baseball just misses in first game after spring break
The Clippers headed to the University of New Haven to face off against the Chargers in early season baseball. Jesse Horsham was called to start for the Clippers on the mound. With the Clippers unfortunately not getting anyone on base in the first inning, the Chargers of UNH were ready to and scored to take the go ahead.
The Clippers struggled through the next couple of innings on the
bat as the Chargers scored once more. With the bottom of the
order coming up in the top of the fifth inning the Clippers needed
to get something started as the sun was going down and more clouds
rolled in. Secondbaseman David Perlleshi led the inning off
with a single down the left field line to start the Clippers
move. Catcher Luis Gonzalez was walked and the Clippers had
men on first and second for the top of the order to come up to
bat. Donnie Roth, shortstop, hit a single into right field to
load the bases for Anthony Carnacchio. Carnacchio got on by
an error by the Charger thridbaseman and the Clippers first run of
the game came home. Billy O'Connell, first base, hit a single
to left field for the next runs to come home and to give the
Clippers the 3-2 lead.
The Chargers came back and answered the Clippers three runs in the bottom of the fifth with two of their own to reclaim the lead. The Clippers continued to put men on base but unfortunately fell a little short of getting them to cross the plate. With darkness creeping up the game was called after the eighth inning and the Clippers missed to the Chargers of New Haven 4-3.
Difre Reyes and Mike Sciacchitano led the Clippers going 2-4 at
the plate each. Billy O'Connell had ten put-outs for the game
at first base.
The Clippers will open their home season up with a Queen's College double header on Saturday.
