Clippers take down Knights for the second day in a row
The Clippers headed back to Queens College to face off with the Knights. With the Clippers defeating the Knights yesterday 6-1 the Clippers looked to make it two in a row.
The Clippers called Peter Denyssenko to the mound for the game and
found that he was immediately successful as he went 1, 2, 3 in the
first inning. The Clippers offense took effect in the top of
the second inning as Billy O'Connell was hit by a pitch to get on
base. A double by Difre Reyes put two Clippers in scoring
position. Mike Sciacchitano was walked to load the bases with
only one out. Tommy Paradise stepped up to the plate and hit
a single to left field which scored O'Connell and Reyes to give the
Clippers the 2-0 lead.
The Clippers scored again in the top of the sixth inning after O'Connell led off with a single and Reyes hit another double to put two men in scoring position. O'Connell was able to score on a passed ball by the Knights catcher and Reyes scored on the ground out by Christopher Motta. The Knights scored in the bottom of the sixth but were only able to score one.
The Clippers answered the Knights one run in the top of the seventh as Donnie Roth was walked and then stole two bases to get to third. With a single from O'Connell, Roth was able to score and seal the 5-1 victory for the Clippers.
Billy O'Connell went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored and added 12 putouts from the defensive side of the game. Difre Reyes hit 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored with 2 doubles.
Denyssenko picked up his second win of the year going 8 strong innings, striking out 7 while only walking 2.
The Clippers will play Dominican College in a non-conference game tomorrow at 3:30pm.
