Clippers grab 6-1 win over Queens College
The Concordia College Clippers stepped back onto the field after four days of being rained out and faced off against Queens College. Freshman Eric Skutch was called to the mound for the Clippers to start the game.
The Clippers kicked things off in the top of the second inning as
Mike Sciacchitano was walked and moved to third off of a Luis
Gonzalez single. Sciacchitano scored off of a passed ball
and gave the Clippers the 1-0 lead. The offensive
movement for the Clippers continued in the top of the third after
Donnie Roth led the inning off with a single. Stealing two
bases, Roth found himself at third and was able to score minutes
later. Billy O'Connell also singled and was then moved to
third as Difre Reyes doubled. With a fly ball to center
O'Connell scored and the Clippers lead 3-0 after three full
innings.
The fourth inning saw Luis Gonzalez lead off the inning with a single. David Perlleshi followed suit with a single of his own and scoring Gonzalez. TJ Walsh singled to score Perlleshi and the Clippers lead 5-0.
The Knights of Queens College found a way to score in the seventh but were unable to gain more than one run. The Clippers scored in the top of the ninth after Donnie Roth singled and stole another two bases to then score off of a TJ Walsh single.
The Clippers defeated the Knights 6-1 and will face off against them once more tomorrow at 3:30pm at Queens College.
Eric Skutch picked up the win after his dominating 7 inning performance, as he struck out 7 batters. Jesse Horsham relieved Skutch to finish out the game with two strong innings including 2 strike outs of his own.
Donnie Roth went 3-5 with two runs scored. Billy O'Connell went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 7 putouts. Difre Reyes and Luis Gonzalez went 2 for 4 for the day as Gonzalez added 9 putouts.
