Clippers defeat Deacons in non-conference play
The Clippers headed to Bloomfield College to face off against the Deacons in a non-conference show down. The Clippers started the first inning with three runs. With Matt Cintorino starting the inning off being walked aboard, Mike Sciacchitano was then hit by a pitch. With a 1-2 count and one out TJ Walsh then hit a triple to right field to score Cintorino and Sciacchitano. A single to centerfield by Anthony Pisano scored Walsh as the Clippers went up 3-0.
The Deacons answered back in the bottom of the inning with just one run but tacked on two more in the bottom of the second to tie the game up.
The Clippers reclaimed the lead in the top of the third as Mike
Sciacchitano reached first on an error by the first baseman.
Sciacchitano then stole second safely. Anthony Pisano was
walked aboard as Luis Gonzalez was up next at the plate.
Gonzalez worked the count as with a full count he hit a shot over
the left field 20 foot fence for a three run home run for the
Clippers to take a 6-3 lead.
The Deacons tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third. With a change in pitchers for the Clippers the Deacons were halted in their scoring.
The game remained at six all through the next few innings. In the top of the seventh Matt Cintorino reached first on an error by the Deacons. Mike Sciacchitano then ripped a single down the right field line to move Cintorino up to second. TJ Walsh put a single to centerfield to gain access and scored Cintorino for the Clippers to take the lead once again. Anthony Pisano continued the innings hitting spree as he knocked a single to right field to score Sciacchitano. Luis Gonzalez his own hitting streak as he added a single to centerfield to score Walsh. Anthony Carnacchio hit a two out single to score Pisano and the Clippers tacked on four runs in the inning to take a 10-6 lead.
The Clippers continued to score in the next inning as Mike Sciacchitano hit a one out single to centerfield to start the inning off. TJ Walsh then at the plate and with a 1-0 count hit a ball to left center field for a two run home run.
The Deacons continued their attempts to score but PJ Surace and the rest of the Clippers defense helped halted their tries.
The Clippers started off the ninth inning as Vincent Ferraro and
Christopher Motta both reached first base on Deacon
errors. Anthony Carnacchio moved both Ferraro and Motta up to
load the bases with a single to left field. John Pliego hit
into a fielder's choice to score Ferraro. Matt Cintorino was
then walked aboard to reload the bases up. Mike Sciacchitano
reached first and was able to score Motta on a Deacon error and the
bases remained loaded. Anthony Pisano was then walked for the
third time in the game to score Pliego and the
Clippers were up 15-6.
Salvatore Minichino came in to finish out the game for the Clippers and kept the Deacons at bay for the Clippers to claim a victory.
TJ Walsh, just one double away from the cycle, hit 3 for 6 with 5 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Luis Gonzalez also hit 3 for 6 with 4 RBI's and 1 run scored.
PJ Surace picks up the win after coming in relief with
pitching 5.2 innings with 4 K's.
The Clippers will host Bloomfield College in a CACC double header this Sunday with the first game starting at 12:00pm.
