Garden City, NY - The Concordia College baseball team was swept in an important ECC doubleheader 3-1 and 3-0 by the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College today in Garden City, NY. The games were played at William Bonomo Field on the campus of Adelphi University in Garden City, NY due to the wet field conditions of Clipper Baseball Field.

In the first game, Dan Stroud drew a bases loaded walk in the 4th inning and Joe Guistino followed with a bunt single to put the Spartans up 2-0.

The Clippers would cut the lead in half in the 8th inning as sophomore Donny Madera (Pleasantville, NY) scored on a wild pitch from third base.

The games final run came in the 9th inning when Nick Barbaloato hit a sac fly to right field to score Matt Marotta from third base and put St. Thomas Aquinas ahead 3-1.

Senior Jose Aquino (Bronx, NY) pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 hits and 2 earned runs in the loss. Aquino falls to 6-4 on the season. Scott Sadowski earned the win for the Spartans by lasting 7 innings and giving up only 3 hits with 6 strikeouts.

In game two, sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) finished with two hits, while junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) and Joe Vaskas (Bethpage, NY) collected one hit apiece.

The Spartans received an RBI single from Dan McDermott in the 1st inning, an RBI double from George Wargo in the 4th inning and an RBI from Dan Stroud in the 6th inning for the games only runs.

Senior Bob Gorvetzian (Jackson Heights, NY) goes to 3-3 on the season with the loss. Gorvetzian pitched a full 7 innings and allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Kevin Ryan gets the victory for St. Thomas Aquinas with a 4 hit shut-out and 5 strikeouts.

The Clippers fall to 23-22-1 on the season and 14-10 in the East Coast Conference. The Spartans improve to 23-21 overall and 15-9 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia earns the No. 5 seed in the upcoming East Coast Conference Baseball Tournament. The Clippers will travel to Brookhaven, NY on Wednesday, May 6th to face the No. 4 seed Golden Lions of Dowling College. The Clippers defeated the Golden Lions in 3 out of 4 contests this season, with 3 games decided by a single run.
