Clippers Shut-Out Purple Knights 4-0
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team defeated the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 4-0 today at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers improve to 23-19-1 overall and 14-7 in the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights fall to 13-17 overall and 11-13 in the East Coast Conference.
Junior Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) pitched a complete game for Concordia. In 9 innings, the junior scattered 5 hits and struck out 3 batters. Paradise improves to 4-6 on the season.
The Clippers took control in the 1st inning when sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) hit a long sac fly to center field to drive home junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) from third base. Sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) also scored on the play due to an error by the Bridgeport shortstop to put the Clippers ahead 2-0. Back to back singles put runners on first and second for junior Greg Conway (Floral Park, NY), who hit singled down the left feld line to make it a 3-0 ball game.
In the 5th inning, with Roth on second base, Sciacchitano drove in his second run of the game with a single to put the Clippers up 4-0.
Concordia will travel to Sparkill, NY on Friday, May 1st to take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College in an ECC battle. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
