Reyes Hits Game Winning Single in 11th Inning
Bronxville, NY - Senior Difre Reyes (Bronx, NY) hit the game winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning to help the Clippers complete the 3-game sweep of the C.W. Post Pioneers 5-4 this afternoon at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. Concordia took the first two games of the series 4-3 in 10 innings and 9-6 yesterday at C.W. Post.
In the 1st inning, sophomore Joe Vaskas (Bethpage, NY) hit a 2-RBI double to right center field, scoring junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) and sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY).
In the 2nd inning, Espinal drove in 2 more runs with a double to right field to put the Clippers up 4-0.
The Pioneers responded in the 6th inning when Bruce Testa hit a 2-out single to drive in a run and Stephen Orefice singled to left center field to drive in two more runs and cut the Clipper lead to 4-3.
The game was tied in the top of the 9th as Orefice homered to left field to make it a 4-4 ball game.
In the 11th inning, the Clippers sophomore Donny Madera (Pleasantville, NY) and Roth walked and Vaskas was intentionally walked to load the bases. Reyes stepped up and delivered the single to clinch the win for Concordia.
Sophomore Peter Denyssenko (Larchmont, NY) pitched 2 innings in relief for the Clippers and did not give up a hit and finished with 1 strikeout. Denyssenko improves to 6-1 on the year. SeniorRobert Gorvetzian (Jackson Heights, NY) threw the first 9 innings and allowed 6 hits and 4 earned runs with 2 strikeouts.
Concordia improves to 22-19-1 on the season and 13-7 in the East Coast Conference. The Pioneers fall to 12-27 overall and 9-9 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will host the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights at Clipper Baseball Field on Thursday, April 30th. The action gets underway at 3:30 PM.
