Lions Net 4 Runs in the 10th to Sink Clippers 6-2
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team lost the rubber game in the 3-game series with the Lions of Molloy College today 6-2 in 10 innings at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers fall to 19-19-1 on the season and 10-7 in the East Coast Conference. The Lions improve to 20-15 overall and 11-6 in conference play.
Concordia opened the scoring in the 1st inning, as sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) hit an RBI groundout to score junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) from third base.
With two runners on base in the 2nd inning, Keith Kenny doubled to center field, scoring both runners and putting the Lions ahead 2-1.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, freshman Vincent Ferraro (Mt. Kisco, NY) hit a 1-out single to right center field and advanced to second base on a Donny Madera (Pleasantville, NY) walk. Junior Anthony Carnacchio (Rockaway, NY) tied the game at 2-2 with a single to left center field that scored Ferraro from second base.
The score would remain tied at 2-2 until the top of the 10th inning, where the Lions would get 5 consecutive hits and a fielder's choice to score 4 runs and put the game out of reach.
Senior Robert Gorvetzian (Jackson Heights, NY) pitched 9 innings for the Clippers and gave up 4 hits and 1 earned run. Gorvetzian finished with 7 strikeouts on the day. Sophomore Peter Denyssenko (Larchmont, NY) picks up his first loss of the season and falls to 5-1.
The Clippers will host the Setters of Pace University on Friday, April 24 in a non-conference battle. The game will begin at 3:30 PM.
