Roth's 3 RBI Leads Clippers to Game Two Win
Rockville Centre, NY - Junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) batted 2 for 4 with 3 RBI in the second game of a doubleheader against the Lions of Molloy College this afternoon at Lion's Field in Rockville Centre, NY. Concordia won the second game by a score of 8-2 after dropping the first game 5-0.
Roth hit his first RBI in the 3rd inning with a single to right field that scored junior Anthony Carnacchio (Rockaway, NY) from second base. Sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) also singled home a run to put Concordia up 2-0.
In the 4th inning, Carnacchio walked with the bases loaded to increase the lead to 3-0. Freshman Christopher Motta (Bronx, NY) grounded out to the shortstop, driving home the 4th run for the Clippers. Roth stepped up to the plate and delivered a single to right center field to put the Clippers ahead 6-0.
In the 5th inning, with a runner on third base, freshman Vincent Ferraro (Mt. Kisco, NY) singled to left field to increase the Concordia advantage to 7-0.
The Lions put a run on the board in the bottom of the 5th inning, as Robert LaRusso hit a sac fly with the bases loaded to cut the Lion deficit to 7-1.
Espinal recorded his second hit and second RBI of the game in the 6th inning on an infield single that scored Motta from third base.
The games final run came on a wild pitch by junior Jesse Horsham (Port Jervis, NY) with runners on second and third.
Senior Jose Aquino (Bronx, NY) pitched 5 innings for the Clippers and surrendered just 3 hits in the win. Aquino improves to 5-3 on the year.
In game one, Ferraro and junior Difre Reyes (Bronx, NY) each finished with 2 hits. The Clippers collected 7 hits as a team.
Junior Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) gets the loss and falls to 2-6 on the season. Paradise allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs and recorded 6 strikeouts.
The Clippers now stand at 19-18-1 on the year and 10-6 in the East Coast Conference. The Lions move to 19-15 overall and 10-6 in the conference.
These two teams will battle for sole possession of second place in the East Coast Conference on Sunday, April 19th at Clipper Baseball Field. First pitch will be at 12:00 PM.
