Baseball Rallies to Defeat Cougars 10-9

Parsippany, NJ - The Concordia College baseball team rallied from an 8-1 deficit to defeat the Cougars of Caldwell College 10-9 in 10 innings yesterday in a non-conference game at Smith Field in Parsippany, NJ. Concordia evens their record at 17-17-1 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 9-14 overall.

The Clippers got on the board in the 1st inning when Caldwell pitcher Raymond Keelan hurled a wild pitch with the bases loaded to put Concordia in front 1-0.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Cougars responded in a big way with 5 runs on the board. Juan Pinero and Andrew Robertson each hit RBI doubles to left field and Keelan hit a single to right field to drive in a run as well.

In the 3rd inning, Caldwell would add to the lead when Pinero smacked a double to right center field with the bases loaded to drive in 2 runs and increase the Caldwell lead to 7-1.

Caldwell would again load the bases in the 4th inning for Migule Perdome, who singled to right field to put Caldwell up 8-1.

The Clippers would begin the comeback in the 5th inning as junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) led off with a double to left field and would advance to third base on a groundout by junior Anthony Carnacchio (Rockaway, NY). Roth would score as junior Difre Reyes (Manhattan, NY) singled to left center field. The next batter for the Clippers, sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY), would double to right center field. That double scored Reyes and cut the deficit to 8-3. Junior Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) stepped up to the plate and delivered the third RBI hit in a row for the Clippers, a single to left field to make the score 8-4. After a walk by junior Greg Conway (Floral Park, NY), senior Matthew Shelley (Floral Park, NY) doubled to center field, driving in 2 more runs and making it a 2 run ballgame at 8-6.

In the 7th inning, Jorge Torres singled with a runner on second base to increase the Caldwell lead to 9-6.

Concordia would post 2 runs in the 8th inning and tied the game at 9-9 in the 9th inning on a single by sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) that scored sophomore Donny Madera (Pleasantville, NY) from third base.

In the 10th inning, the Clippers loaded the bases for Madera, who drew a walk to bring home the winning run.

Junior Jesse Horsham (Port Jervis, NY) threw the final 3 innings for the Clippers, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4 batters. Horsham improves to 1-1 on the year.

The Clippers will return to action on Thursday, April 16th, as they travel to Bridgeport, CT to face the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in an ECC match-up. The game will start at 3:00 PM.
