Purple Knights Slip by Clippers 1-0

Bridgeport, CT - The Concordia College baseball team fell to the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights by a score of 1-0 this afternoon at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, CT. The loss drops the Clippers to 16-17-1 overall and 8-5 in the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights improve to 6-10 overall and 4-6 in the East Coast Conference

The Clippers managed only two hits in the contest, as the game was controlled by the pitchers. Sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) and freshman Vincent Ferraro (Mt. Kisco, NY) each finished with a hit for Concordia. Junior Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) pitched 8 innings and allowed only 4 hits and an earned run. Paradise also struck out 7 batters and gave up 1 walk in falling to 2-5 on the season.

The game's only run happened in the 6th inning. Chris Barile hit a 1-out double to left center field. Barile advanced to third base when Diego Sarmiento grounded out to the Clipper shortstop. The run was put on the scoreboard when Gaetano Giunta singled to left field, driving home Barile.

Bobby Swann pitched a complete game for the Purple Knights. Swann threw 9 innings and allowed only 2 hits and 4 walks and struck out 8 batters. Swann picks up his first win of the year and improves to 1-4 overall.

The Clippers will return home to Clipper Baseball Field on Saturday, April 11th, as they host the Seahawks of Briarcliffe College in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one will start at 12:00 PM.
