Roth Crushes Two Home Runs in 12-5 Loss

Boca Raton, FL - Junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) blasted two home runs in a 12-5 loss to the Fighting Knights of Lynn University yesterday afternoon at McCusker Sportsplex in Boca Raton, FL. The Fighting Knights are currently ranked 13th in NCAA Division II Baseball, according to the latest American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll.

Roth finished the game 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a single. The junior shortstop finished with 4 RBI and a stolen base.

The Clippers dug an early hole for themselves, as the Fighting Knights posted 6 runs in the first two innings. Roth belted the first of his two home runs in the 3rd inning, a solo shot to right center field to cut the deficit to 6-1.

In the 4th inning, the Fighting Knights posted 4 runs by connecting on 3 doubles, 2 singles and a sacrifice fly, pushing the lead to 10-1.

In the 5th inning, freshman Christopher Motta (Bronx, NY) hit a 1-out single, followed by a double to right center field by sophomore Donny Madera (Pleasantville, NY). Roth stepped up to the plate next for the Clippers and hit his second home run of the game, a shot to right field that cut the Concordia deficit to 10-4.

Lyn would add to the lead by adding a run in both the 6th and 7th innings to lead 12-4. In the 8th inning, Roth opened with a lead-off single and would eventual steal second base. Two batters later, sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) hit a single to drive home Roth to make the final run of the game.

Senior John-Anthony Salvaggio (Queens, NY) pitched 4 innings for the Clippers, allowing 9 hits and 7 earned runs while striking out 2 batters. Justin Figart picks up the win in 5 innings of work, giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs and 3 strikeouts.

The Clippers fall to 1-7 overall. The 13th ranked Fighting Knights improve to 15-3 on the season.

Concordia will continue action in the Palm Beach Challenge at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Palm Beach, FL on Wednesday, March 4th against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in doubleheader action. Game one is set to start at 2:00 PM.
