Carnacchio's RBI in 13th Leads Clippers to Victory
Dobbs Ferry, NY - Junior Anthony Carnacchio (Rockaway, NY) drove home the game-winning run, a double to right field, to help the Clippers defeat the Mavericks of Mercy College 11-8 in 13 innings yesterday at Mercy College Field in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
With the score tied 8-8 in the top of the 13th inning, Carnacchio stepped to the plate with 1 out and sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) on second base and sophomore Billy O'Connell (Dobbs Ferry, NY) on first base when he drove the ball to right field for the game-winning RBI. Two batters later with the bases loaded, sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) added an insurance run with a sac fly to center field. Carnacchio would score the final run of the game on an error by the Maverick's first baseman to put Concordia ahead 11-8.
Junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) finished with 5 hits for the Clippers, while Sciacchitano collected 4 hits, 2 RBI and scored 3 runs. O'Connell and junior Greg Conway (Floral Park, NY) each finished with 2 hits and an RBI.
Sophomore Peter Denyssenko (Larchmont, NY), who pitched the final 5 innings for the Clippers, shut the door in the bottom of the 13th inning with 2 groundouts and a long fly ball to right field. Denyssenko picks up the win, allowing only 4 hits and no earned runs with 4 strikeouts. The sophomore improves to 3-0 on the season.
For the Mavericks, Matt Walsh and Graig Lauricella collected 3 hits apiece and Ken Mundy had 2 hits and an RBI. Chris Pannullo drove in 3 runs for the Mavericks. Raymond Thaisz gets the loss for Mercy College and falls to 3-1 on the year. Thaisz pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
Concordia improves to 12-14-1 overall and 5-2 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy College evens their record at 6-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
The Clippers will return to Clipper Baseball Field on Tuesday, March 31st, as they host the Golden Lions of Dowling College. This game will not count as an East Coast Conference match-up. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
