Chargers Rally for 9-8 Win
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team lost a non-conference contest to the Chargers of Dominican College 9-8 this afternoon at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers lose their second straight game and fall to 10-12-1 on the season. Dominican improves to 9-5 overall.
Junior Difre Reyes (Manhattan, NY) finished with 3 hits and 4 RBI, including a 2-run home run, his second of the season. Sophomore Joe Vaskas (Bethpage, NY) also collected 3 hits and had 2 RBI for the Clippers.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Dan Robinson smashed an RBI double to right center field, scoring Jason Berrios from second base.
In the 3rd inning, Vaskas singled to left field with the bases loaded, driving in 2 runs. The next batter up, Reyes, also singled to left field to score another run for the Clippers and make the score 3-1.
In the 4th inning, the Chargers would get runners on second and third for Robert Iglesias, who grounded out to the Concordia shortstop to score a run. The next two batters would get hits off Concordia starter John-Anthony Salvaggio (Middle Village, NY) to bring the Chargers in front 4-3. Dominican would add a run in the 5th inning on a single through the infield by Willie Mann.
Concordia scored in the 5th inning as Reyes hit a bases loaded single to right field, followed by an RBI by sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY). Three batters later, senior Matt Shelley (Floral Park, NY) drew a bases loaded walk to score the third run of the inning and put the Clippers ahead 6-5.
Concordia would add to the lead on Reyes' 2-run home run in the 6th inning, increasing the Concordia lead to 8-5.
In the 7th inning, the Chargers got a bases loaded RBI from Berrios. The next Charger batter, Yordis Veras, would double to center field to score two more runs. Dan Robinson stepped to the plate and delivered a single to left field to put Dominican ahead 9-8.
Concordia would place runners on second and third base with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th inning, but was unable to push a run across the plate.
The Clippers will travel to Oakdale, NY on Wednesday, March 25th to face the Dowling College Golden Lions in an East Coast Conference battle. The game will begin at 3:30 PM.
