Baseball Sweeps Devils
Bronxville, NY - Led by solid pitching, the Concordia College baseball team swept a doubleheader against the Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia 2-1 and 8-3 today at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers have won 6 consecutive contests and improve to 10-10-1 on the season while the Devils fall to 1-14 overall.
Junior Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) pitched a complete game one for the Clippers, allowing only 5 hits and 1 earned run in the 7-inning game. Paradise also recorded 7 strikeouts on the day and improves to 2-2 on the season. In game two, sophomore Peter Denyssenko (Larchmont, NY) was on the mound and pitched 6.2 innings, allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs with 5 strikeouts. Denyssenko moves to 2-0 on the season.
Senior Matt Shelley (Floral Park, NY) recorded 2 hits and 3 RBI on the day. Sophomore Donny Madera (Pleasantville, NY) also drove in 3 runs for Concordia. Sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) finished with 3 hits and an RBI, which turned out to be the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 7th inning in game one. Espinal singled up the middle to score Shelley from third base for the win. Sophomore Joe Vaskas (Bethpage, NY) collected 3 hits for the Clippers.
For the Devils, Mark Perry finished with 1 hit and 3 RBI on the day and Mark Forbes added 4 hits and scored 2 runs. Pete McCauley pitched game one and gave up 9 hits and 2 earned runs in the loss. Brandon Boucher picked up the loss in game two, lasting only 1 inning while allowing 2 hits and 3 earned runs.
The Clippers will host the Cougars of Caldwell College on Sunday, March 22nd at Clipper Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
