Clippers Outlast Golden Falcons in 13 Innings
Bronxville, NY - Junior Difre Reyes (Manhattan, NY) drove home the game winning run in the 13th inning to lead the Clippers past the Golden Falcons of Felician College 4-2 today at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. Reyes finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI and sophomore Joe Vaskas (Bethpage, NY) collected 4 hits and scored a run.
Felician got on the scoreboard in the 6th inning as Marcos Torres led off with a double and would advance to third base on a long fly ball by Dave Schoer. Two batters later, Jordan Noval flied out to right field, driving home Schoer for a 1-0 lead.
In the 8th inning, sophomore Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) pinch ran for senior Michael Pompa (Carmel, NY), who led off the inning with a walk. Espinal advanced to second base on a bunt from junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) and would eventually steal third base. Junior Greg Conway (Floral Park, NY) stepped up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Espinal to tie the game at 1-1.
The score would remain at 1-1 until the 13th inning when Reyes entered the batters box with the bases loaded and hit a single that drove in two runs. Two batters later, sophomore Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) crushed in a single to right field that scored a runner on second base to make the score 4-1.
In the bottom of the 13th inning, Anthony Balmos hit a 1-out double and Mike Libretta singled to advance Balmos to third base. The next batter up, Chris Fogleman drove in a run to cut the Felician deficit to 4-2. With one out, sophomore Peter Denyssenko (Larchmont, NY) closed the door on the Golden Falcons as James Simpson grounded out to the pitcher and Mickey Zudonyi struck out to end the game.
Freshman Patrick Schreck (East Meadow, NY) picked up the win for Concordia to move to 2-0 on the season. Victor Monteagudo suffered the loss for Felician College.
The Clippers have won 4 straight games and improve to 8-10-1 overall, while the Golden Falcons fall to 7-8 on the year.
Concordia will host the Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Saturday, March 21st in a non-conference match-up. The action begins at 12:00 PM.
