Baseball Schedule Released

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team has released it's 2008-2009 schedule, as announced by the Athletics Department.

Concordia will open the 2009 spring campaign in Wingate, NC in a 3-game series against the Bulldogs of Wingate University on Saturday, February 21st and Sunday, February 22nd. The Clippers will proceed to head further south to the Sunshine State, where they will play 11 games in an 8-day stretch. Concordia will play true road games in Florida against the Barry University Bucs on Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st and a single contest at the Fighting Knights of Lynn University on March 3rd. Also in Florida, Concordia will play neutral site games against Mercyhurst College, Wilmington University, Chestnut Hill College, Bloomfield College and Felician College.

Concordia opens East Coast Conference action on Saturday, March 14th at Queens College and will have their home opener the following day against the Knights. The Clippers will also have non-conference, home battles this season against the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, Caldwell College, Dominican College, Briarcliff College and Pace University.

Last season, the Clippers finished 12-29 on the season and 8-19 in the East Coast Conference. Junior Greg Conway (Floral Park, NY), who was an ECC Third Team All-Conference selection last season, batted .303 for the Clippers with 33 hits and 11 RBI. Also providing an offensive spark will be senior Matthew Shelly (Floral Park, NY) and junior Donnie Roth (Congers, NY). Shelly collected 14 hits and 5 RBI, while Roth batted .245 with 25 hits and 7 RBI.

Returning to pith for Concordia will be senior Robert Gorvetzian (Jackson Heights, NY), who finished with a 5.14 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Sophomore Peter Denysenko (Larchmont, NY) went 1-1 last year in 18 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts, while junior Jesse Horsham (Port Jervis, NY) pitched 12 innings and collected 7 strikeouts.
