Baseball Takes 2 of 3 From Bridgeport
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team defeated the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport in a home doubleheader 3-1 and 4-3 on Saturday before falling in the finale on Sunday 4-3 in Bridgeport, CT. The Clippers move to 10-24 overall and 5-14 in the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights move to 12-13 overall and 10-9 in the East Coast Conference.
Sophomore T.J. Walsh (Eastchester, NY) finished with 5 hits, an RBI and scored 3 runs in the series. Senior Tom Bordanaro (Wappingers Falls, NY) had 4 hits, an RBI and scored 2 runs and junior Michael Poma (Carmel, NY) finished with 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Clippers. Senior Peter Dempsey (Brewster, NY) and freshman Mike Sciacchitano (Wappinger, NY) each drove in 2 runs in the 3-game series.
Senior Zach Staniewicz (Verplank, NY) picked-up the win in game one, lasting 7.2 innings and yielding 7 hits and 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts. Staniewicz improves to 4-4 on the season. Junior Giuseppe Granitto (Bronx, NY) came on in relief to get the save and pitched the second game of the doubleheader. Granitto had 3 strikeouts in relief in the first game and finished with 5 strikeouts in game two in 7 innings of play. Granitto improves to 3-5 overall. In Sunday's game, sophomore Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) went 8 innings on the mound for Concordia, giving up 10 hits and 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts. Paradise falls to 0-5 on the year.
The Clippers will travel to Oakdale, NY on Tuesday, April 22nd
to take on the Golden Lions of Dowling College. It will be a
non-conference match-up between the two schools and the action
begins at 3:30 PM.
