Walsh's Home Run Propels Clippers in Game Two

Bronxville, NY - Sophomore T.J. Walsh (Eastchester, NY) hit a 9th inning, walk-off solo home run to lift the Clippers over the Pioneers of C.W. Post 2-1 in game two of a doubleheader at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. Walsh finished with 2 hits and drove in both runs for Concordia. This was the first home run of the season for Walsh.

The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 4th inning with a two-out single to center field by Bruce Testa that scored Bryan Bonin from second base.

 

 

In the bottom half of the 4th inning, sophomore Greg Conway (Floral Park, NY) reached first base on an error by the Pioneer third baseman. Conway advanced to second base on a passed ball and moved to third on a sac bunt by senior Peter Dempsey (Brewster, NY). The next batter up was Walsh who singled to left field to tie the score at 1-1.

The Clippers could not get a runner aboard in the 5th or 6th inning. The first batter in the 7th inning was Walsh, who ended the game with the home run.

Junior Giuseppe Granitto (Bronx, NY) pitched a complete game for the Clippers, allowing 9 hits and an earned run with 4 strikeouts on the day. Granitto improves to 2-5 on the season.

In the first game, the Clippers found themselves down 2-0 in the 1st inning. The Clippers got back-to-back singles from senior Tom Bordanaro (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Conway.  Two batters later, Dempsey drove in a run to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the 5th inning, with runners on first and third, Mike Sylvester drove in a run on a fielder's choice to put the Pioneers up 3-1. That would prove to be the final run of the game.

Senior Zach Staniewicz (Verplanck, NY) pitched a complete game for the Clippers, allowing 7 hits and 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts.  Staniewicz falls to 3-4 on the season.

With the split, the Clippers are now 7-21 overall and 3-11 in the East Coast Conference. The Pioneers move to 15-17 overall and 7-6 in the East Caost Conference.

Concordia will travel to Brookville, NY on Sunday, April 13th to play the third and final game against the C.W. Post Pioneers.  The action will begin at 1:00 PM.
