Chargers Surge Past Clippers 2-1

West Haven, CT - Sophomore Donnie Roth (Congers, NY) collected 2 hits and an RBI in the Clippers 2-1 loss to the University of New Haven yesterday at Frank Vieira Field in West Haven, CT. The Clippers lost their fourth straight game and fall to 3-12 overall and 0-4 in the East Coast Conference. New Haven improves to 7-11 overall and 3-1 in the East Coast Conference.

The Chargers went up 1-0 in the 2nd inning on a bases loaded walk by Kyle Donnelly. In the 4th inning, Concordia got a 2-out single up the middle by junior Michael Pompa (Carmel, NY). Pompa would finish the game with 2 hits. Freshman Kenny Espinal (Bronx, NY) followed with a single to center field. The next batter was Roth, who singled to center field, scoring Pompa from second base to tie the game at 1-1.

 

 

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Dan Rosa doubled to left field and Donnelly bunted his way to first base, advancing Rosa to third base. Jimmy Rivas was intentionally walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Evan Okan singled to right field to bring home the winning run.

Sophomore Tommy Paradise (Mahopac, NY) pitched 8.1 innings for the Clippers, allowing only 7 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6 batters. Junior Giuseppe Granitto (Bronx, NY) pitched to the final four batters in the 9th inning to pick-up the loss for the Clippers. Senior Tom Bordanaro (Wappingers Falls, NY) finished the game with 3 hits.

The Clippers will step out of ECC action and take on the Chargers of Dominican College on Friday, March 28th in Orangeburg, NY. It will be a single game and will begin at 3:30 PM.
