Clippers Split Doubleheader With STAC
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team opened up a three game series with St. Thomas Aquinas College with a doubleheader split today at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. Concordia took the first game 14-2 and lost the second game 12-7. The two teams will wrap-up the series tomorrow with the winner advancing to the East Coast Conference Baseball Tournament.
In game 1, senior Jason Lewandowski (Nesconset, NY) finished with 4 hits, including a triple in the 4th inning, and had 5 RBI. Michael Gagliardi (Cortlandt Manor, NY) had 2 hits and 4 RBI, including a solo home run in the 1st inning. Junior Tom Bordanaro (Wappingers Falls, NY) belted his fifth home run of the season, a 2-run shot to left field in the 8th inning. Senior Kevin Hickey (New Fairfield, CT) also blasted a solo home run in the 1st inning.
Junior Giuseppe Granitto (Bronx, NY) pitched a complete game for the Clippers. Granitto allowed 8 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 5 Spartan batters to improve his record to 5-2 on the season.
In game 2, Hickey hit two more home runs, a solo shot in the 5th inning and a two-run home run to center field in the 7th inning. The senior finished the game with 2 hits and 3 RBI. Junior Peter Dempsey (Brewster, NY) had 3 hits and an RBI. Gagliardi also put one over the fence in the 3rd inning to finish with 2 RBI.
Senior Michael Quick (Port Jervis, NY) picked up the loss in game 2, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing 7 hits and 8 earned runs. Quick falls to 4-4 on the season.
Concordia (19-22, 13-13 ECC) and St. Thomas Aquinas (15-23, 12-12 ECC) will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday, May 6th at Rockland Community College. The winner will get the 6th and final playoff spot in next week's East Coast Conference Baseball Tournament. The action gets underway at 5:30 PM.
