Clippers Drop 10-8 Decision to Dowling
Holbrook, NY - James Healey belted 2 home runs to help the Golden Lions of Dowling College defeat the Clippers 10-8 yesterday at the PAL Sports Complex in Holbrook, NY.
Down 4-1 in the top of the 4th inning, freshman TJ Walsh (Bronxville, NY) hit a bases loaded single to left center field, scoring two runs. Sophomore Matt Shelly (Floral Park, NY) grounded out to the shortstop, bringing home another Clipper run to tie the game at 4-4. Two batters later, Kevin Hickey (New Fairfield, CT) singled in the fourth run of the inning to give Concordia a 5-4 lead.
The Golden Lions would tie the game in the bottom of the 4th inning on a Frank Intagliatta lead-off home run. In the 6th inning, Healy belted his second home run of the game to give Dowling a 6-5 lead. Later, Chris Caputo doubled with a runner on second base to increase the lead to 7-5. The next batter, William Mottram, singled to left field to drive home two more runs tp push the Golden Lion lead to 9-5.
Concordia would come back with 3 runs in the 7th inning, highlighted by a Tom Bordanaro (Wappingers Falls, NY) double to right field to cut the deficit to 9-8.
In the 8th inning, with runners on first and second, David Wendt singled home the final run of the afternoon, giving the Golden Lions the 10-8 victory.
Sophomore Robert Gorvetzian (Jackson Heights, NY) pitched 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 earned runs. Gorvetzian drops to 2-2 on the season.
The loss drops the Clippers to 10-16 overall and 5-9 in the East Coast Conference. The Golden Lions improve to 13-13 overall and 8-5 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will look to get back on the winning track on Friday, April 20th, as they travel to Dobbs ferry, NY to face the Mercy College Flyers. This will be the third and final regular season meeting between the Clippers and Flyers this season. Concordia won the previous two meeting by scores of 14-8 and 6-0. The action begins at 3:00 PM.
