Clippers Fall to Pioneers in ECC Playoffs
Brookville, NY - Senior Jason Lewandowski (Nesconset, NY) hit his first home run of the year, but it wasn't enough, as the 3rd seeded Pioneers of C.W. Post surged past the 6th seeded Clippers 4-1 yesterday in the first round of the East Coast Conference baseball playoffs in Brookville, NY.
Lewandowski put the Clippers ahead 1-0 in the 3rd inning with a solo shot to right center field. The score would remain 1-0 until the 5th inning, as Brian Chenicek was awarded first base from being hit by a pitch. Three batters later, Tim Sylvester would single to right center field, advancing Chenicek to third base. The next two batters for the Pioneers would each hit an RBI single with a runner on third base to put C.W. Post in the lead 2-1.
In the 6th inning, Nick Galasso singled up the middle and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Brian Anderson. Galasso would take third on an infield hit by by Chenicek and scored on a single by Chris Yandoli to increase the Pioneer lead to 3-1.
The Pioneers added another run in the 7th inning on a 2-out solo home run by Frank Carrotta off of reliever Michael Quick (Port Jervis, NY), who stepped in to pitch in the 7th inning for the Clippers.
Junior Giuseppe Granitto (Bronx, NY) pitched 6 innings for Concordia, allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs and striking out 6 batters. Granitto ends the season with a record of 5-3 and a 3.55 ERA.
The Clippers conclude the 2007 baseball season with a n overall record of 20-23.
