Clippers Slay Purple Knights 16-3

Bronxville, NY - Senior Michael Gagliardi (Cortlandt Manor, NY) belted a grand slam home run to left center field to cap off an 8-run, 7th inning, as the Clippers topped the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 16-3 today at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. Gagliardi finished with 2 hits and 4 RBI.

The Clippers opened the scoring with two runs in the 1st inning. After a 2-out double by Gagliardi, senior Kevin Hickey (New Fairfield, CT) doubled to left field to drive n the first run of the game. Junior Peter Dempsey (Brewster, NY) singled home Hickey for the second run of the inning.

Concordia would add four more runs in the 3rd inning, as Dempsey picked up his second RBI single of the game. Junior Tom Bordanaro (Wappingers Falls, NY) followed with a 3-run home run to left field. Concordia added an additional run in the 4th inning and the 6th inning.

 

 

Bridgeport scored in the 5th inning on a RBI single up the middle by Greg Hosmer, scoring Nate Leva from third base.

The 7th inning started off with Bridgeport pitcher Johannes Brus hitting 5 straight Clipper batters, scoring the first 2 Concordia runs of the inning. Seniors Samuel Golubov (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Jason Lewandowski (Nesconset, NY) each hit RBI singles to increase the lead to 12-1. Gagliardi's grand slam would then cap off the inning for Concordia, putting the Clippers ahead 16-1.

Hosmer led off the 8th inning with a single to left field. Two batters later, Rob Parisian crushed a ball over the center field wall to cut the deficit to 16-3. Gary Vera would strike out to end the 8th inning.

Senior Josh Likens (Owensboro, KY) was able to close out the game with their second double play of the game. Likens pitched a complete game for the Clippers, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs. Likens also struck out 6 batters and improved to 2-1 on the season.

With the win, the Clippers even their East Coast Conference record at 3-3 and move to 7-10 overall. The Purple Knights fall to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will seek their fourth straight win on Tuesday, April 3rd, as they travel to Oakdale, NY to face the Golden Lions of Dowling College. It will be a single game and will begin at 3:30 PM.
