Caldwell Cruises Past Clippers 7-2

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College baseball team was defeated by the Cougars of Caldwell College 7-2 this afternoon at Clipper Baseball Field in Bronxville, NY. The loss drops the Clippers record to 14-19 overall. Caldwell improves to 19-9 on the season.

Freshman Harold Mejia (Miami, FL) batted 3-4 with a solo home run to left center field in the 7th inning.  The other Clipper run came in the 1st inning, as senior Michael Gagliardi (Cortlandt Manor, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Matt Shelly (Floral Park, NY) from third base. Shelly finished the game with 2 hits.

 

 

John Salvaggio (Middle Villabe, NY) pitched 5 innings for Concordia.  The sophomore allowed 10 hits and 6 earned runs and struck out 3 batters. Salvaggio falls to 0-3 on the season.

For the Cougars, Raymond Keelan had 2 hits and 4 RBI on the afternoon, including a lead-off, solo home run in the 5th inning. Doug Hilgenburg had a hit and 2 RBI. Jon Irwin and Chris Chiarappa each collected 3 hits for the Cougars. Stephen Pfeil pitched 7.2 innings for Caldwell, giving up 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Pfeil struck out 4 batters and improves his record to 5-2 on the season.

Concordia will return to Clipper Baseball Field, with an East Coast Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 28th, as they host the Pioneers of C.W. Post. The action gets underway at 12:00 PM.
