SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its 2015 NCAA Division II Regional Awards and the Concordia College tennis programs captured eight of the 14 total awards within the East Region. The men secured six of seven available awards while the women's program captured two awards.
Senior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year as he is currently 19-2 in singles play and 17-6 in doubles. Majauskas is the fifth-ranked singles player in the East Region and alongside junior Lorenzo Montegiorgi (Velletri, Italy) the duo is 21st in the nation and 2nd in the East Region. Benas was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year as well as the CACC Men's Tennis MVP for the Championship Tournament.
Freshman Jui Mao (Taipei, Taiwan) was named the ITA Rookie Player of the Year as he is 15-5 in singles and 19-4 in doubles play. Mao is the 12th-ranked singles player in the nation and the 1st-ranked singles player in the East Region. In doubles, Jui is 6th alongside teammate junior Ofir Ginat (Raa'nana, Israel) in NCAA Division II and the duo is 1st in the East Region. Mao was named the CACC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year and an All-CACC First Team selection.
Senior Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) was selected as the ITA Most Improved Player (Senior) of the Year and is 18-2 in singles play and 16-3 overall in doubles. Juuso is 27th overall in DII within the singles rankings and 2nd in the East Region. In doubles he is 4th in the East Region with junior Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil).
Ferreira was named the ITA Player to Watch in the East Region as he is 19-2 overall in singles and 18-5 in doubles action. In addition to his previously mentioned rankings, Rafael is the sixth-ranked singles player in the East Region.
Head coach Neil Tarangioli captured the East Region's Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year award on the men's side as he currently has the program with a 20-4 record. Tarangioli was named the CACC Coach of the Year earlier in the season and earns the ITA award for the sixth in the last 11 seasons within the East Region.
Assistant coach Daniel Rockhill earned two awards as he was named both the men's and women's ITA Assistant Coach of the Year in the East Region. Rockhill previously won the award on the men's side in 2013, 2012, 2010, and 2009.
On the women's side Romana Tabak (Bratislava, Slovakia) was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year in the East Region. Tabak finished the year with a 15-5 singles record and an 18-3 doubles record. Romana captured the 2014 USTA/ITA NCAA Division II Women's East Regional Singles and Doubles Championships in September and was the CACC Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Tabak was also named to the All-CACC First Team as well as the CACC Women's Tennis MVP for the Championship Tournament. She is currently the 25th-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II and 2nd in the East Region. Alongside sophomore Costanza Mecchi (Rome, Italy), the duo is 9th in the nation and 1st in the East Region.
