Concordia Basketball Teams Combine to Set 29 New CACC Records in 2012
Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College basketball teams may be done with their season but it was filled with so many positives which included three 1,000 point scorers and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoff appearance, the first since joining in 2009. Both teams improved from the previous season and along the way they managed to set 29 new records that will be added to the CACC record books.
On the women’s side, 13 of the 29 total records were individual performances while six were team records. Senior Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) contributed nine records which included five blocked shots records and four rebounding records. Blakemore is the only women’s player up to this point in NCAA Division II that recorded 22 or more rebounds in two separate games this season. She also set records for her rebounding and shot blocking statistics in the CACC.
Junior Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) added three records which showed off her precession as a shooter. Agard shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field during a game in November and shot a perfect 14-of-14 from the foul line in early February. The last individual record went to sophomore Tara-Ann Rock (Queens, NY) who set a record for three-point shot attempts.
As a team, the Clippers made records in both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. Their blocked shots per game average will put them 3rd all-time while their 33 free throws made against Felician College on Feb. 1st will be 9th all-time. Within the same game, Concordia attempted 55 free throws which will tie for the most all-time in a game.
For the men, five records were individual performances while five were team records. Junior Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, NY) set all five of the individual records, four of which were rebounding records. He is the only men’s player in NCAA Division II at this point to record 20 or more rebounds in two separate games this season. His 11.4 rebounds per game will place him 2nd all-time and his nine steals against Felician College on Nov. 30th will be a new conference record.
The men’s team managed to set five records which showed off their shooting ability this season. In mid-November, the Clippers shot a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line and a month later they attempted 86 field goals in a game at Southern Conn. St. In early January Concordia edged out a one point victory against Caldwell College and within that game the Clippers made 14 three-point baskets which will be 9th all-time.
The goals that the two teams have accomplished this season made for some very exciting games to watch. With only Blakemore graduating, these same teams will be back to put on another great show for the fans throughout the 2012-13 season.
