Clippers Announce New Head Men's Soccer Coach, Craig Wilkinson
Bronxville, NY. - The Concordia Athletics Department announced today that Craig Wilkinson has been selected as Head Coach of the Clippers Men's Soccer program.
Wilkinson has been a collegiate assistant coach since 2006, amassing a record of 60-22-9 and helped lead fellow league member Dominican College to a national ranking of 25th as well as capturing the 2006 CACC Championship. In 2008, the Chargers achieved a national ranking of 5th and in 2009 they were 10th and participated in the NCAA Tournament. In a brief stint at Suffolk Community College in 2007, Wilkinson achieved a Junior College National Ranking of 2nd.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be named the Head Coach of the Concordia Men's Soccer program," said Wilkinson. "It is a responsibility that I won't take lightly, and I will do everything in my power to build a solid, classy program that our community can be proud of”.
“My coaching philosophy is all about being respected by my student athletes, having them act appropriately and having them play how I want them to play. Besides respect, I believe teamwork and communication is vital to building a great program. I feel all great teams have to blend well and communicate with the coaching staff at all times. To be a successful coach, we must know our students on and off the field. In saying this, I want my student athletes to be a reflection of me and of the institution and I will demand a lot of my student athletes. Two of my biggest demands will be for the players to listen to me and give me everything they have day in day out. If my student athletes do that not only on the field but in the classroom as well, then we will have succeeded.”
The Walden, NY native had an illustrious career at Greenville & Nyack Colleges from 2001 to 2004. Wilkinson is currently a Club Trainer for the U-18 Union Ironbound, the U-14 Union Ironbound, and the U-14 Vernon Youth Soccer4 Programs. He is also the Head Coach for the U-12 & U-14 European Select Boys Soccer Team.
"Craig is the right fit for our program," said Concordia Director of Athletics Ivan Marquez. "He is a student of the game, cares deeply about the 'art of soccer' and has shown tremendous strength, guidance and passion as a coach and mentor to student-athletes. Our Clippers family is very supportive of Craig, and hopeful that he will enjoy success as our Head Coach for many years to come."
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of being a head coach and the work that lies ahead," Wilkinson said. "Along with the players, we will be working together to reach our goal of having a successful season and making the Concordia community proud."
