Felicia Dorsey Named Head Athletic Trainer for Concordia College NY

Bronxville, NY – March 15, 2011

The Concordia Athletics Department announced that Felicia Dorsey has been hired as the Head Athletics Trainer. Dorsey comes to Concordia from Sacred Heart University, where she was an Adjunct Instructor, and the Professional Orthopedic and Sports Therapy Clinic, where she was a clinical athletic trainer providing high quality care for patients of all ages.

"We are very excited to have Felicia (Dorsey) join the Concordia Athletics Department to direct our athletic training program," said Ivan Marquez, Director of Athletics. "She came highly recommended, and brings with her many years of experience in both college and professional athletics. Her research project, titled Body Mass Index and its Risk of Lower Extremity Overuse Injuries, has given her experience in understanding how research affects the profession of athletic training.  Felicia believes that continued research is of the utmost importance to the well-being of all athletes in facilitating the highest quality care possible.”

"Injury prevention and rehabilitation are critical to the well being of our student-athletes. We feel Felicia is an individual who can do an outstanding job of serving the needs of our student-athletes. She will be a great asset to our department", added Marquez.

"I would like to thank everyone who has helped me to become the Head Athletic Trainer at Concordia," said Dorsey. "This is a great opportunity, and is a goal that I've been striving for in my professional career. I'm excited and looking forward to becoming a contributing part of the Concordia Family."

At Concordia, Dorsey will be the head trainer for the 12 Clippers varsity athletics teams and will oversee the athletic insurance, training, and rehabilitation components of our program with our other long service staff member, Cynthia Tucker.

From September 2009 to June 2010 Dorsey served as the clinic-outreach Head Athletic Trainer for Mamaroneck High School. In this position she thoroughly revised their athletic training program which served approximately 1,000 athletes. The program is now highly functioning for the many student athletes and their fast-paced athletics schedule.

The prior two years Felicia worked in high school settings from which she gained additional insights, outstanding organizational skills, and valuable experience. At Ohio University she was a graduate assistant taking full time classes while serving as the Head Athletic Trainer of Vinton County High School. Vinton County is located in Appalachia Ohio and is one of the most medically underserved counties in the State of Ohio. Dorsey provided comprehensive medical coverage for approximately 202 student athletes.

Dorsey is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed by New York State, and is a professional member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.

A former varsity Cross Country runner and student trainer, Dorsey earned her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Sacred Heart University then completed her Masters of Science degree in athletic training from Ohio University, earning academic recognition by being awarded the Dean of Students Citation for Outstanding Work in Athletic Training in June 2009.

Felicia had clinical internships with the Manchester Wolves of the Arena Football League and has been an active participant in the MS Walk fundraisers.

She replaces Tara Vandenbosch, who resigned as Concordia’s Head Athletic Trainer earlier this spring to join the University of South Carolina training staff.
