Clippers host the International School for a day at Concordia
The Clippers hosted the International School, from Queens, NY, to a day around the campus of Concordia College NY. The students from the International School arrived on the campus around 8:45 am and headed down to the Meyer Athletic Center (MAC) as the first stop of their day.
Once the students enter the MAC, there were basketball,
volleyballs and dodge balls for them to relax and become more
comfortable on the campus and with new people. After a little
while shooting hoops, the group came together to hear a couple of
people talk to them about different aspects of college life from
when you first start thinking about heading off to college through
what are you going to do with the degree you received after
graduating from higher education.
Clippers Men’s Head Coach Brian Sondey talked to the
students first followed by Jared Smith, a sophomore on the
men’s basketball team who also happens to be a Lutheran and a
Resident Advisor studying social sciences. Assistant
Women’s Basketball Coach Jenifer Jules, also an Admission
representative, was also on hand along with Head Women’s
Basketball Coach John DeSio and Sports Information & Community
Engagement Director Erin Schuler. Several other basketball
players including , Brandon Whitaker, Marquis Campbell, Argelix
Gil, Kyle Kube, Nandi Pyle, and Krystina Agard joined in to
answer any questions the students or teachers had about the process
of getting into college to what the college has to offer
academically and athletically and everything in between.
After the students were able to find out about what opportunities could be in their very near future, Coach Sondey and Coach Jules along with the athletes had a couple of basketball shooting contests for the students to win some prizes.
Once the prizes were all given out the students split up into five different groups and headed off on their tours of the campus.
At 12pm the students met up at Schoenfeld Hall to have a nice lunch with the admission counselors from Concordia including Rob Piurowski, Erik Graybosch, and Tina Osso. Sherry Frasier, Dean of the College, was also able to join the group after her morning classes and went around and spoke with each table of students.
The Clippers are thankful for hosting the International School as they visited the Bronxville campus and wish them well as they start their process in heading off to college.
