SAAC Teams Up with Toys For Tots for Second Straight Year
For the second year in a row the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has been teamed up with the Toys for Tots Foundation and the United States Marine Corps. The toys were being collected in the main lobby of the Meyer Athletic Center along with the College Racquet Club on the campus of Concordia College New York for the past month.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee set their sites on beating last years goal of 114 toys. Hoping that it could be fulfilled would prove to be challenging, especially in these difficult economic times. Members of the SAAC helped out by spreading the word around campus about this worthy cause. The SAAC members not only got the word out but several of them donated toys including Softball Seniors Jaime Lorenzo and Alexa Rosella (pictured). By the end of it, all the toys and checks were counted and the SAAC was able to collect 75 toys and $25 in checks.
"I would like to thank each and every person who donated toys and/or money to the Toys for Tots Foundation. Though we came up a little short, I am proud that the SAAC was still able to collect toys so that children can have a Merry Christmas this year. Giving a child a Christmas is a wonderful goal in and of itself and with that the toy drive for Toys For Tots was a success," states Erin Schuler, Sports Information & Community Engagement Director.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will team up once again next year with the Toys for Tots and attempt to surpass this years number.
